Mass production
of pressure transmitters reduces costs.
With an investment
of £2.4 million, the well established series 21 pressure
transmitter from Keller has been developed into the series 21S
(stainless steel) and 21M (brass) and is now manufactured using
their new production line, capable of a throughput of more than
1000 units per hour.
This
new approach has resulted in physically smaller units (17 x 60mm),
higher volume production capability, and significant price reductions.
With OEM users in mind, the new series 21S and 21M has evolved
into an attractive range of pressure transmitters with little
sacrifice in performance, but with fast reliable delivery of
large quantity orders and highly competitive pricing.
Typical unit costs are £24 for a quantity of 1000, reducing
to £10 for an order of 50,000.
The new investment
includes a continuous, belt-fed production line facility capable
of brazing 316 stainless steel or brass, together with automatic
sensor calibration and compensation, handling batches of up to
200 units.
Production capability
is now up to 50,000 units per week. The complete sensor is fitted
with a miniature PCB made for Keller by AMI (Advanced Microsystems
Inc.) with chip-on-board amplifiers, regulator and Keller 'ProgRes'
ASIC compensation.
Several pressure
ranges are available from 0..5 to 0..200 bar sealed gauge with
a choice of output configurations:
(a). 4-20mA /
8-32 Vdc (2 wire)
(b). 0.5..4.5
Vdc / 5 Vdc (3 wire)
(c). 0..100mV
/ 10 Vdc (4 wire)
With a total
error band at 25ºC of 0.5% (21S) or 1.0% (21M). Pressure
port fitting is G1/4 male.
