IEE goes MP3

Luxembourg, 08.06.06 – An IEE sensor is used in a Samsung product since the beginning of this year. The product in question is a new MP3 player with 2 or 4 gigabytes of flash memory. The IEE sensor is used as an input medium and control of the MP3 player.

The IEE sensor is based on an “XY input field” patented by IEE. An extremely thin and flat input medium for the menu has been developed by IEE using FSR™ technology. The element is controlled on the input interface by a sliding motion of the finger. The activation pressure required amounts to only a few grams.

Compared with the relatively expensive, electronic capacitive systems, the IEE sensor offers a very flexible, inexpensive alternative, insensitive to outside interference, for touch-sensitive input systems.

The IEE sensor has been developed and is produced in Luxembourg. Development began in September 2005 and was completed after only three months.

The serial production start of the MP3 player was launched in January, with the official presentation at the CES in Las Vegas. The Samsung device will be available in the USA and Europe first, and is scheduled to be introduced on the Asian market in the second half of 2006.
